I don't remember my birth, though I believe I attended the event. In fact, I arrived early (impatient to get on with things, I guess). It was a mistake, for the brutal Phoenix summer was waiting for me with a sinister smile, and I believe I was so uncomfortable leaving the womb that I actually cried. For many years I refused to grow up, declining even to do my own laundry, and only in retrospect have I realized the wisdom of that defiance. The fatal error of my school years was taking my future too seriously and neglecting the present; if only I'd known how soon the future would arrive, I would have tried to enjoy myself more along the way. Now I am a designer, a man of great aspirations and innumerable shortcomings. My goals in life are impossibly simple: be good, and do good.
